Ask five people for the best area to stay in Lagos and you’ll get five different answers, usually based on wherever they live. The honest answer is that it depends on what your trip is for.
Lekki, Victoria Island (VI) and Eko Atlantic all sit on the Island, but they feel very different. And in Lagos, distance on a map means little. A 10km drive can take 20 minutes or two hours. So the smartest way to choose is to think about where you’ll spend most of your days, then stay close to that.

Lekki: for leisure, groups and longer stays
Lekki is where Lagos relaxes. You’ll find restaurants, cafes, gyms, supermarkets and beach spots within a short drive, which makes it easy to settle in. It’s also the most popular shortlet area in the city. Lekki Phase I earned the most short-let revenue in Lagos in 2025, at ₦93.78 billion.
In pricing, a 2-bedroom shortlet in Lekki Phase I averaged ₦149,000 a night in 2025, and ₦127,000 in Lekki Peninsula II. The trade-off is traffic if your meetings are on the VI side, and quality can vary because rapid listing growth has made Lekki Peninsula II especially crowded.
Best for: friends’ trips, family stays, remote work, and anyone staying a few weeks or more.
Victoria Island: for business and short, packed trips
VI is where Lagos does business. Banks, corporate offices, event venues and restaurants are all close together, so you spend less time in the car and more time getting things done. A 2-bedroom shortlet in VI averaged ₦158,000 a night in 2025.
The trade-off is that it’s busy, especially on weekdays, and it’s more about work than winding down.
Best for: meetings, conferences, weddings, and quick trips where saving time matters most.
Eko Atlantic: for calm, newness and a premium feel
Eko Atlantic is the newest of the three, a planned city built on reclaimed land with wide roads, sea views and a skyline. It also carries the highest price tag. Eko Atlantic had the highest 2025 average rate for a 2-bedroom shortlet in Lagos at ₦325,000 a night.
You’re paying for the setting and the quiet. The trade-off is that it’s still developing, so you’ll have fewer everyday spots on your doorstep than in Lekki and may rely more on a car for errands.
Best for: guests who want a calm, modern base and don’t mind paying for it.
